About the artist
Hi! My name is Tara Stubley and I am an artist based in Melbourne, Australia. My primary focus is on painting where I have a passion for the figurative and landscape.
In 2013 I undertook a 3 years Bachelor degree in Fine Arts with Honours at the Victoria College of the Arts, University of Melbourne.
About my paintings
When I’m walking in the bush behind my place, my only intention is to get as far into the interior as possible; to be completely immersed in the magic and mystery of nature. Lost in the landscape of my mind, no destination, no maps, just following animal tracks. Up and down the mountain, in out of gullies, I’m like a super sleuth absorbing every nuance of smell, sight and sound. My thoughts meander like the tracks i follow, the inner dialogue pondering on new growth, fungi, animal traces, scat, bones, decaying timber, leaves and shredded bark, the colour of rock, oxide and ochre, the beauty of a fallen tree carpeted with florescent green moss, the sound of water trickling over rocks, weaving between ferns and glistening with sunlight reaching through a canopy of leaves.
These painting are a narrative of my walks, landscapes of the interior. They are my thoughts, the sensation of being a part of nature, as much as they are an expression of the environment surrounding me.
